There are certain areas in this world, types of places that you visit and simply fall in love with. For many, nothing can compare to the mountains. Mountains provide some of the most awe inspiring scenes in the world. The question becomes of course whether that view is worth year round habitation. Is mountain life what you’re looking for? The following things should be considered before you make a decision either way.
The Construction Details
The first thing to look at is the structure of the mountain home. Second floor entrances are a common way to avoid the vast amounts of snowfall that can occur. Many mountain homes have extensive second floor balconies just for this purpose. Is the garage attached or not? An attached garage allows you to exit your car and enter the home without worrying about inclement weather.
Look at the Nature of the Landscape
How the land rolls and changes is always something to keep in mind. Living in a mountainous region means that your acreage will probably have some elevation changes. Understanding the topography will help you to protect your home from common natural occurances such as rock slides or floods from storms that frequent the area. Where is the buidling on the property? Could it fall victim to a rock slide? Or perhaps the land underneath the house will not be as stable if a flash flood races through your yard. Understanding how the topography is will also help you determine what types of vehicles to use for lawn care.
The Nature of Building Material is Important
The construction of your home is required to be able to withstand a lot of elemental forces. Perhaps more than any other area, the mountains can blast your home with ever changing weather and natural small scale catastrophes. The building materials that are used in the construction of the home should be stronger than most, and they should be able to adapt to the changing needs that the environment presents.
Living on a side of a mountain isn’t the best thing for everyone.. Mountains are known for their majestic beauty, and dynamic living conditions, something which not everyone can become accustomed to. But if you are willing to accept all that, the moutain life will become more enjoyable over the years to come.
